Acupuncture is an ancient healing modality for mind, body and spirit
This traditional art of Chinese medicine has been practised for thousands of years. Through key observations and diagnosis, we seek to find the underlying causes of your body’s dysfunction. Then, by placing fine needles on key points, we aim to address both your symptoms and the underlying cause of disharmony, easing pain and stress while activating your body’s innate ability to heal itself.
What you can expect during an acupuncture treatment
An initial treatment at my Brisbane clinic runs for approximately 60 minutes and begins with a discussion about your health goals and concerns, along with key diagnostic observations.
My main method of diagnosis is pulse taking, based on Dr Jimmy Chang’s method. In addition, I may also check your tongue and palpate your abdomen, arm and leg channels. All of these methods are gentle, non-invasive and pain-free.
We then move into the acupuncture treatment. Fine needles are gently inserted at specific points along meridian lines.
I draw on a wide range of traditional acupuncture methods to select the right acupressure points for you, including:
Master Tung-style acupuncture
Balance method acupuncture
Zhu scalp acupuncture
Neoclassical (NCA) acupuncture
Auricular (ear) acupuncture
The acupuncture needles are left in place for about 20-30 minutes. You can close your eyes, meditate or simply relax while your treatment takes effect. If warranted, I may also use other holistic health tools such as cupping (a suction technique that draws toxins to the surface of the skin) and gua sha (scraping your skin with a smooth-edged tool to help move stagnation and improve circulation).
I also encourage awareness of unhealthy patterns and habits you may have in your life. I may offer dietary and lifestyle advice or recommend Chinese herbal formulas to take at home. This helps you take an active part in your own healing process.
